Huckabee’s lead starts to contract

December 15, 2007

But can Romney catchup with him by January 3rd?

Adding the latest Research 2000 poll to the collection of polls and filtering them produces the following projections: Huckbaee 32.60 Romney 22.35 Giuliani 9.49 Thompson 8.86 McCain 6.67 Paul 6.65. As the graph above shows, Huckabee’s surge in momentum, which saw him rise from nearly 15 points behind as late as November 7th to a peak of 14.19 ahead on December 6th, seems to have fallen back to 10.25. This could be a blip, and is probably inevitable given Romney’s concerted efforts to destroy him but it does show that he will have a tough time staying ahead. Interestingly, Thompson has actually fallen behind in the polls, reducing the likelihood of him getting the 20% he needs to remain in the contest.
